Sustaining Communities, Connecting Cultures

Not Just Travel, transformation

Community Center Construction fund

Help us reach our goal of completing the community center in Goyena by 2011.  The center will be a place for adult education, computer literacy, a library and a communal kitchen for meals programs.
$1,000 will build a complete wall in a classroom.

Madre Tierra Youth Arts Center

Located in an unused school building in a neighborhood of the Goyena community known as Las Parcelas, Madre Tierra has worked to maintain an active open space in which children, adolescents and women, can learn and develop educational and recreational activities, whose starting point is the encouragement of creativity and artistic expression.

Through artistic work as the main methodological tool, Madre Tierra addresses issues sensitive to the community such as respect and care for natural resources, rights of children and adolescents, gender equity, sexual and reproductive rights, and identity and culture.
$100 supports the work of the center for a month

The Secondary Education fund

Originally funded by a group of MCDS families, this fund will continue to provide tuition assistance and support for high school students.
Student expenses are $40 a month.

Education Resource fund

For anyone who has traveled to the rural community, this is an ongoing need.  Students must have notebooks, pencils, pens, while the classroom needs textbooks, markers and white boards.
$100 provides notebooks and supplemental reading books for a classroom for a year.

After School Primary Education fund

This provides money for teachers to work with students on their assignments after the normal school day ends at 1 pm.
$60 pays for an after school teacher for a month.
